3-Day Event & Horse Trials

Southern 8ths will host the eighth annual Heart of the Carolinas Three-Day Event & Horse Trials, May 2-6, 2018. This event is the country’s only venue offering riders the chance to negotiate their ultimate test in a USEA recognized traditional long-format event at all four levels of Beginner Novice, Novice, Training and Preliminary.

We are thrilled this year to offer for the first time a Preliminary Three-Day Event and Preliminary Horse Trials!

Heart of the Carolinas is partnered with the Carolina Horse Park offering an eventing series called the Carolina Eventing Challenge. Riders qualify at one of two spring events at the Carolina Horse Park and finish in a long-format division at Heart of the Carolinas. Check back for more information on the 2018 series.

The HOTC Three-Day grows every year. In 2015, we began offering Beginner Novice through Training Horse Trials in addition to the popular long-format divisions. In 2016, we added a derby style Preliminary Combined Test and the newly developed Beginner Novice Coaching Assistance Test (CAT). In 2017, we ran the brand new USEA Modified (3’5″) level horse trials as well as a Preliminary/Training level horse trials and USEA Young Event Horse and Future Event Horse competition. *In 2018, we will not be running the YEH, FEH, CT or CAT divisions.
