Southern Eighths is very proud of its Cross-Country courses! The were designed by FEI Course Designer, Tremaine Cooper, and built by renowned Belgian builder Levi Ryckewaert. There are courses at four different levels: Training, Novice, Beginner Novice and Introductory – The entire course is built at 2’ and under! There is something for everyone to jump - from logs on the ground to Championship level Training cross-country fences.
The water complex was designed to invite even the most nervous horse and/or rider in for a splash. The bank jump was built to encourage everyone to have a simple hop up or down or a big galloping jump up/down a step to a jump set at a related distance. Ditches of all sizes will invite anyone to step over while building confidence and courage to jump the bigger ones. The most unique feature on our courses is a bridge for you to ride across.
Footing
Tremendous attention to detail has been taken to ensure great footing year-round at Southern Eighths. We aerated all of the fields open, spread hundreds of tons of ‘dead sand’ and renovated it back into the ground. This will provide a cushion to the indigenous clay soil during the hot, dry summer months as well as offer some grip during the cold, wet winter months.
Course Sites
Since completing the four cross-country courses another piece of land has been purchased so we can build another entire course site. This way, when the ground is wet, torn up, needs repair or rest, the cross-country jumps can be picked up and moved across the street to the new cross-country jump field. It will also be complete with water complex, bank jumps, ditches of various sizes and more. Southern Eighths will be one of the few facilities that will have this to offer. |
